Chimney (solid-fuel-burning) Appliance Does Not Draw Properly
Acceptable Performance/Condition A properly designed and constructed fireplace and chimney shall function properly. It is normal to expect temporary negative draft situations caused by high winds or obstructions such as large branches of trees too close to the chimney. Builder is to determine cause and correct if problem is one of installation of the fireplace. Warranty One-Year Work and Materials Damage resulting from improper maintenance or additions, deletions or alterations made by a homeowner is excluded from the warranty. Action Chimneys not meeting the acceptable performance shall be repaired. Remarks Chimneys may not draw properly if: • adjacent buildings, trees or high winds create downdrafts • the chimney is plugged • the chimney is cold • the combustion air supply for the appliance is restricted. Opening a window may help the chimney draw properly. Inspecting and cleaning the chimney is part of regular home maintenance. |
